Our clinic is committed to providing safe, comfortable, and respectful care for all patients. Some examinations may be sensitive or intimate. A chaperone helps protect both patients and the physician by providing reassurance, supporting dignity, and adding a witness during examinations.
A chaperone is a trained person present during a medical examination to:
Provide comfort and support to the patient.
Help with the procedure if needed.
Act as a witness to the conduct of the physician.
At our clinic, the designated chaperone is usually Diem Wiseman, who assists with clinic operations but can be a family or friend member you trust.
A chaperone is offered for physical examinations, especially for examinations of sensitive areas (such as breast, genital, or rectal exams).
Patients may also request a chaperone at any time, even for non-sensitive exams.
If a patient declines a chaperone, their choice will be respected and documented.
You have the right to request a chaperone at any time.
You have the right to decline a chaperone if you feel comfortable.
If you prefer not to be examined without a chaperone and one is not available, we may reschedule your exam for another time when a chaperone is present.
You can bring a support person (family member, friend) in addition to — or instead of — the clinic chaperone, if you prefer.
All chaperones in our clinic are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as the physician. Personal information and details of your exam will be kept private.
The presence (or offer) of a chaperone will be documented in your medical record.
If you decline a chaperone, this will also be documented.
Our goal is to make every patient feel safe and respected. We encourage open communication — please let us know your preferences about having a chaperone present.
